Healing the Inner Child (and Why You Shouldn’t Feel Guilty for Buying That Giant Pack of Cookies)

Let’s be honest.

Sometimes healing your inner child looks less like a serene yoga session with crystal bowls and more like eating four donuts in one sitting while watching old Saturday morning cartoons. (Yes, even the dodgy ones with the questionable animation.)

And that’s okay. We're all on journeys.

There’s a softness in this space I want you to feel. A kind of quiet warmth that says, "You’re safe here."

See, for many of us, childhood wasn't always giggles and cupcakes. Some of us were raised in environments where joy was rationed, where affection had a schedule, where being "good" meant being small, silent, or superhuman. And now? Now we find ourselves in adulthood buying that action figure we always wanted, wearing those glittery trainers our parents said were "too much," or stocking up on cereal with more marshmallows than nutrition.

This isn’t regression.

This is reclamation.

When you were told "no" enough times, or when the world taught you that your desires were frivolous or unworthy, part of you began to hide. That part? That was your inner child. And now, that little you is peeking out from the shadows, wondering if it’s finally safe to play.

So when you buy that thing you always wanted as a kid, when you splurge on sugary nostalgia, or when you build a cushion fort just because—you’re not being ridiculous.

You’re being remembered.

Of course, balance matters. I'm not saying your dinner should always be sour worms and fizzy pop. But a little indulgence, now and then? That’s medicine. That’s magic. That’s you saying, "Hey, little me... I see you. I’ve got you now."

So wear the sparkles. Eat the ice cream. Play the game. Watch the cartoon. Love the weirdness. And when the guilt starts creeping in like that weird kid from school who always had boiled eggs in their lunchbox... lovingly tell it, "Not today."

Because healing is messy. Healing is layered. Healing is sometimes a Spice Girls concert in your kitchen while dancing in a hoodie two sizes too big with a Chupa Chups lolly in your mouth.

And on that note, I’m off to listen to the entire Spice Girls album while I go hunt down some old skool sweets (candy, if you’re in the US).

Inner child: activated.
